Welcome to Clevedon Dons
As the owner of Clevedon Dons...
Welcome to the site created for Clevedon Dons FC. We are a local team for local people. We currently play on what can only be described as one of the best pitches in the renowned Weston District League. To many this pitch may appear to be an old cow field but look a little closer and it is where dreams are made of, filled with exciting potholes and precarious mole hills.
After finishing runners up in the League and cup to a team full of ringers we still gained promtion for the 2010/2011 campaign to the illustrious heights of Weston and District League Division 3. The Dons will be looking to stamp there authority on the league and push for a 4th promotion in as many years. There have been a few changes this season most notably the retirment of Malcolm Pillinger as Manager. Malcolm has been replaced by Dan Lawton a new face to the managerial scene, but has already made a positive impact with a 2-1 friendly victory over Clevedon Utd. Goals were scored by Penners and Pig and they will be looking to cement there places as the Top scoring Duo.

Dave Hollier 2
James Pennington 1
Top Scorers 09/10

Penners Clevedon Dons 3 v 3 Wedmore
Following promotion last season, the Dons started out at home against a youthful Wedmore side. The Dons began brightly having plenty of possession in attacking areas, but lacked a final ball to get themselves ahead.
Wedmore came into the game and some smart saves by new stopper Nick George kept them at bay. However, the deadlock was finally broken by Wedmore in freak fashion when a free kick missed everyone in the box and found its way into the corner.
Strong words by new manager Dan Lawton at the half saw Dons begin the second half with renewed vigour, which resulted in two quick goals, firstly from Pennington, unleashing a screamer from the edge of the box and a Hollier corner which beat the keeper at the near post to find the net.
Dons piled on the pressure and came close through Pennington, Harris and Pillinger. However, the third came through a Hollier header from another corner kick. Dons looked for more and looked dangerous through the skilful Hollier and marauding Lewis from full back.
However, Wedmore grabbed two quick goals late on to snatch an unlikely point. Dons head to Worle this weekend looking to build on this result.
Thermal Covers man of the match goes to David Hollier for an impressive second half display and 2 goals on his return to the Dons.

Harris Many thanks, will have a look and post a link after this weekend's game. More disappointed with Tottenham's result, 2-0 up and then 2-2!! But still away from home i guess Spurs will take that!!

Penners A comfortable victory last night secured Clevedon Dons promotion to Division 3. Despite sitting pretty at the top of the table it is unlikely to remain that way with Berrow and Blagdon having games in hand. Final league game of the season on Saturday away against title contenders Blagdon. An end of the season highlight could still see some silverware in the cabinet with a league cup final on Tuesday 18th May against Blagdon.

Penners Vardon Cup Semi Final
Clevedon Dons 5 vs 2 Banwell Reserves
The Dons went into this Vardon Cup Semi final knowing that a win would put them in their first final at the 5th attempt of asking but found the going tough in the first half, Banwells aggressive style breaking up the Dons free flowing football, Paul Lewis in the Dons goal making a couple of fine saves to keep them in it but could do nothing with Banwells opener, a poor clearance being drilled home on the half hour mark. The Dons continued to create chances, Adam Turner finding himself in the thick of it before Joel Page rounded the keeper only to be brought down for a penalty which Al Pillinger duly drilled into the roof of the net. Strong half time words from Manager Malc Pillinger saw a rejuvinated Dons team take the field and found themselves 2-1 up Mike Piscina flicking on a Joel Page cross and James Pennington finishing into the bottom corner. Banwell levelled with a fine solo effort against the run of play but Pennington made it 3-2 for the dons, cooly rounding the keeper after latching on to a great through ball from the impressive Al Pillinger. Salwart defending from the Dons back four of Chivers, Harris, Buckley & Farley kept the Banwell attacks at bay and with Paul Sell finally winning the midfield battle, the Dons pressed on. James Pennington grabbed the 4th and his hat-trick with a fine solo goal, turning 2 defenders and finishing superbly across the keeper. The Dons were coasting and 5mins from time substitute Rich Skinner rounded the game off, racing clear of the Banwell defence to collect a Pennington through ball and slotting home past the on coming keeper. A great result against a much improved Banwell outfit with James Pennington just pipping Al Pillinger to the CK Sales & Lettings man of the match.

Penners Atwell Memorial Shield
Clevedon Dons 2 vs 1 Portishead A
The Dons went into this David vs Goliath encounter knowing that a win would give them their biggest scalp in their short history. In a replica of last years fixture which saw the Dons on the recieving end of a 5-1 loss they new the odds were against them with Portishead sitting in Div 1 and the Dons in Div 4. The early running saw the Dons play with no fear, the midfield of Turner, Pillinger, Sell & Page dominating the midfield battle and Farley, Buckley, Harris & Chivs staying strong at the back the Portishead side realised it wasn't going to be the walk in the park they expected. Mike Piscina was causing all sorts of problems with his size and strength coupled with the raw pace and trickery of James Pennington the Dons were creating a number of chances with Joel Page having the best of them before Pennington put the Dons one up after 30mins, collecting a Piscina flick on to fire into the bottom corner. Backs to the wall defending in the second half soaked up most of the Portishead attacks but they leveled on the hour mark after a long throw wasn't cleared and the centre midfielder volleyed past an unsighted Paul Lewis in goal. The dons new found belief showed and despite tired legs they pressed forward looking for the win and were duly reward in injury time when an Al Pillinger free kick was flicked on by Pennington and the busy Joel Page ghosted in at the back post to volley home past the forlorn Portishead keeper. A superb display against a team 3 divisions above them with the CK Sales & Lettings man of the match going to the whole team.
