Welcome to Lyndhurst

Lyndhurst

As the owner of Lyndhurst... I welcome you to the Lyndhurst Zub. I bought this zub as I find Lyndhurst a fascinating village, not only for it's history and architecture, or where it is located but for that added extra that it has a Maserati/Ferrari dealer.

Lyndhurst lies about 10 miles south west of Southampton and is considered the capital of the New Forest, mainly due to it's size in comparison with other towns and villages.

It is little known fact that Alice Liddell, or Alice Hargreaves after marriage, lived in Lyndhurst. Alice was in fact the inspiration for Alice of Alices Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll. She is now buried in the graveyard at St Michaels & All Angels Church in Lyndhurst.

There are many things to do in Lyndhurst, the high street has a selection of shops, antique shops, tea rooms, hardware stores and the like. For the car fans, Lyndhurst is home of Meridien Modena, an authorised seller of Maserati and Ferrari. For any avid car fan a great way to kill an hour or two is to sit outside the pub right next door, watching the cars come and go.

DelightfulMiles "Hello @andyph Just great to visit your Lyndhurst site, and moreso view your pics of the Ferrari. Many years ago I had a holiday at Milford on Sea, and whilst there visited the New Forest, and also took a day trip to the Isle of Wight... Very fond memories and would love to return sometime again the future. For me the highlight was a slap up Chinese meal in Southampton. The Ferrari pics are fabulous and has reminded me that it is not as long as we think before the F1 season gets underway again, and don't forget it is also olympic year too.........In the place of my former upbringing in East London...What fantastic things we have to look forward to...

At least we spent the day together :p !Lyndhurst is on the top of the list of visits in the coming week though, just need to find the time!

Tash

Tash How long does it take you to get there from !Southampton?
one year ago

andyph

andyph Not long at all, about 20 minutes tops. Most places within the forest are within a short reach, it is absolutely great. Found a nice pebble beach a couple of weeks back right on the coast.

Tash

Tash Nice! It's great to have somewhere so nice in easy reach. Beach sounds nice, I prefer pebbly beahes to sandy ones, sand between toes= rank!!!

andyph I am currently studying at university in Southampton so often find myself heading out on a weekend for a drive around the forest, most times with a trip to Lyndhurst in there somewhere. The New Forest is a great place, plenty to do here and in all fairness it can be nice to visit any time of the year. It is always so picturesque, although the summer months can be better with regards to things to do, picnics, viewing points, playing a bit of frisbee or something. I camped in a town called Lymington this summer, we visited the beach, did a bit of crabbing, then back to camp for a camp fire and bbq, was excellent!

Tash

Tash Wow sounds great! I have always heard good things about Brockenhurst too, have you been there? I

andyph

andyph The only time I have actually visited Brockenhurst is when I drove through it to get to Lymington, so I probably shouldn't say yes to visiting it! Some of my favourites are of course Lyndhurst, Beaulieu, Bucklers Hard, Lymington, Fordingbridge (just outside New Forest), Ashurst and Hythe (to watch cruise ships leaving Southampton Docks). I thoroughly recommend you check out the website and come down and stay some time, plenty to do and you can even pop in to Southampton, maybe goto Bournemouth or visit Marwell Zoo which is just outside Southampton off the motorway.

andyph There are many qaint little B&Bs hidden away in the sticks that would be fitting for a summer or winter visit.

Tash
